Meet The Co-Founders

Leon Sampson

Leon Sampson - Co Founder

Hi, my names Leon. I’ve been working in the tattoo industry for 6 years as a tattooist. Prior to that I graduated from Lincoln University with a 2:1 (Ba) in Interactive Media.

InkQuirey came about after me and my partner had our first child. I started to value my time a lot more and realised I needed to do something about it. I was spending on average 10 hours a week replying to messages which was taking time away from creating designs and spending time with my family. The idea for InkQuirey was born back in 2020 but with everything that happened back then and the new addition of our 2nd child I sat on the idea. It wasn’t until 2023 when I met Matt and we formed a partnership to bring the idea to life.

Matt Shirley

Matt Shirley - Co Founder

Hey - my name is Matt Shirley and I've spent the last three years on an entrepreneurial journey. From freelance writing to search marketing services and now building software. About a year ago I first met Leon as a client at his studio in Hull, UK. We spent our session discussing what it was like working as a tattoo artist and what could be done for the industry. The opportunity to help build InkQuirey was massively exciting. bringing it to life and genuinely improving the whole industry is a challenge I look forward to.

How We Work

Browse Our Artist Directory

What sets Inkquirey apart is our artist directory. Here you can search for artists by name, or by area. So, whether you already have a favourite artist (or not) Inkquiry can be of great.

Select Your Artist

You’ve searched our artist directory and found a few cool artists who are close to you. Now it’s time to look at each of their profiles and view samples of their work.

Book In Your Appointment

Once you’ve found an artist you LOVE it’s time to book in. Simply, check their availability and book in a time that works for you and them. You will have to complete a form to let them know what sort of tattoo you want and pay an initial deposit to secure your spot.

Enjoy Your Tattoo Session

Once you have received confirmation your session is booked in, our role is over. Now you will need finalise your design with the artist and make sure you attend your session. Most importantly, stay in communication with your artist and of course enjoy your session!

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s very important to remember that Inkquirey does not process payments; we are simply a platform for connecting customers with artists. All deposits made my customers are processed by Stripe and paid out immediately (minus fees) to artists.

Inkquirey is completely free to use, there are no upfront costs or monthly fees at all. Sounds too good to be true? Haha, well yes, it is. We charge a transaction fee on deposits of £1.75. Also, we use Stripe as a payment provider and they charge an additional fee.

Sadly, not yet! Inkquirey allows you to schedule appointments with artists, but not for conventions and special events hosted by artists. This is a feature we are keen to add in the future.

If you need to alter your tattoo idea after booking, communicate promptly with the artist through email or social media. This should be avoided if possible, but we all appreciate people change their minds. They'll work with you to adjust the design to your satisfaction.

Punctuality is important - artists are super busy. If you anticipate being late, contact the artis ASAP. “Consequences” are at the discretion of the artist depending on their policies, they may need to reschedule your appointment or even cancel.

All cancellations are at the discretion of the individual artist. Once an appointment has been agreed and the deposit made, all cancellation approvals are at the discretion of the artist.

Yes, to secure your appointment, all artists require a deposit. The deposit amount will usually be £50 and this will be deducted from the final tattoo cost you pay on the day. Artists need to charge a deposit to protect themselves - thank you for understanding!

Of course! You can view all of our artist's portfolio right here on Inkquirey. Most portfolios will include photos of the artists previous work, as well as verified reviews from other clients to help you make an informed decision before booking.
